Weld: Comparing the 2018 and 2024 Federal STEM Education Strategic Plans

On November 26, 2024 the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) released the third iteration of the 5-year federal STEM education strategic plan, Federal Strategic Plan for Advancing STEM Education and Cultivating STEM Talent.

Jeff Weld, Senior Policy Advisor to the STEM Education Coalition, examined the new plan and developed the below resource comparing the new 2024 strategic plan with the previous edition of the strategic plan published in 2018.

Per the document, “the purpose in compiling this comparison document is to help inform America’s STEM education community about continuity and discontinuance in the federal STEM education strategy moving forward. For stakeholders who rely on the Federal STEM plan for local and regional vision-setting and/or funding opportunities, these changes in policy priority may factor prominently. Please be advised: this document is not to be interpreted as an evaluative or judgmental assessment.”
